Islam - Past, Present and Future

[Resent - contents have not changed]

It is important to get a firm grasp of the historic context, at a time when the greatest challenge is how Islam could reflect on Australian society and coexist along with Western civilization. Lasting peace on earth depends on how the Muslim World and the West relate to one another. This lecture will look at the historic journey of Muslims and Islam; the present relationship predicament and more importantly an outlook for the future.

Mehmet Ozalp has been involved in social, cultural and religious work since 1991. He has been focusing on the intercultural and interfaith area since 2000. He is the Founding Director and the Executive Officer of Affinity Intercultural Foundation. He has established and written the material for a number of short courses on Islam and personal leadership. He was also a member of the Community Harmony Reference Group with the Community Relations Commission in Sydney - established by the Premier of NSW during the Iraq war of 2003. He is the author of two books, "101 Questions You Asked About Islam" and "Islam in the Modern World". He is a prolific speaker and occasional university lecturer in Islamic Studies.

Note: Signed copies of "101 Questions You Asked About Islam" would be available for purchase prior to and after the lecture at the Hayden Allen Tank on Thursday 09, August from 6 PM to 7 PM.
