Commemoration of the Nakbah and Protest against the Continuing Israeli
Occupation of Palestine

In May 1948 following the partition of Palestine, over 750,000 Palestinians, a majority of the population, were driven by force from their homes and land in the process of the creation of the state of Israel. The Palestinians call this their Nakbah (catastrophe) and May 2008 marks 60 years since this tragic event.

o this day Israel has refused to allow Palestinians to return to their homes, even though numerous UN resolutions have called for their return. To this day also, Israel has refused to accept a Palestinian state alongside Israel, having held the West Bank and Gaza under military occupation since 1967. To this day, Israel refuses to remove its illegal occupiers from Palestinian land in the West Bank and keeps Gaza under siege, thereby precluding the possibility of a Palestinian state and peace in the region.
